FROM ISTANBUL TO SAINT-DENIS: THE JOURNEY OF A KURDISH REFUGEE WITH MULTIPLE IDENTITIES.
Salman Rushdie once wrote, “Man has no roots, he has feet. As he walks, he leaves his footprints on the ground.” Erdal is Kurdish. He left Turkey as a child, in the care of his elder brother. The first stop in an endless journey – Lausanne. He grew up alone, living any way he could, fell into delinquency, stole, brawled and spent time in prison. How did he end up in a share-flat in Saint-Denis? Pure chance. There he met Simon Roth and told him of his life as a perpetual refugee. One day, Erdal, who had never set foot in a theatre, came up with the idea for this piece. On stage, there are three actors and an actress. Each have different bodies, voices and gestures, but all play Erdal. They take on his words, his way of speaking, become one with him. And the result is profoundly moving.
