EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMERS PRESENT THE ESSENCE OF AN ANCESTRAL JAPANESE ART.
Noh theatre is usually performed over a long duration, at one time from dawn til dusk. Contrary to tradition, Hiroshi Sugimoto brings us a condensed performance, that takes us to the quintessence of the art. For this one-of-a-kind piece, he has drawn on the climaxes of 6 works from the classical Noh repertoire and created a series of sequences featuring dance and song, joined together by musical interludes. The actors, renowned representatives of the Noh tradition, wear centuries-old masks from the director’s personal collection. For Sugimoto, this original experience is an opportunity to “heal our anaesthetised senses and awake the ecstasy that sleeps in all of us.”
