Inspired by the family memories of Victoria Szpunberg, this vast, vibrant saga spans a century of upheavals. It follows the story of the Shprigelburds, a Jewish family from Central Europe caught up in the tumult of history. The first generation must flee the pogroms in 1920s Ukraine, and the next escape the military dictatorship of 1970s Argentina. In current day Barcelona, the latest generation are confronted with illiberalism in its modern form. From one era to another, one continent to another, these stories echo each other: flee, resist, start over again. Between moments of gravity and sparks of humour, this work captures audiences with its rhythm and incandescent humanity. At times, it alludes to the Danza de la Muerte, a dance where the living dance with death, a reminder that all history is played out on the edge of its own extinction.
