It took fifty years before Annie Ernaux could recount her first sexual experience aged eighteen in her book Mémoire de fille. She had no words to describe this painful and humiliating experience, the violence of which would never cease to haunt her. After their German theatrical adaptation of this story, Sarah Kohm, Elisa Leroy and Veronika Bachfischer have now created a French version, with the help of Suzanne de Baecque. The actress plays both a young Annie Ernaux, and the author looking back on her past. She also adds a personal touch, talking candidly, at times with sensitivity, at times with humour, of her own life as a young woman at a time when sexual mores where more free, yet her experiences were often just as painful.
