Anacarsis Ramos returns to Campeche, where he grew up before leaving to study sociology and found a theatre company in Mexico City. He chats with his mother, Josefina, as he helps her with her work. The conversation keeps coming back to the question of money, and how hard it is to earn. When Josefina talks about the forty different jobs she has had in her life, including as an unlicensed peddler in the metro in Barcelona where she met his father, her son asks her to be the leading lady in his next work. In this performance she is by his side, cutting his hair and stuffing sausages. While Anacarsis dreams of utopia, Josefina keeps her feet fiercely planted on the ground. This funny, charming, heartwarming, devastating play derives its beauty from the tension between their two world views.
