OEDIPE/ANTIGONE STÉPHANE BRAUNSCHWEIG
BASED ON THE WORKS OF SOPHOCLES - OEDIPUS REX, OEDIPUS AND COLONUS AND ANTIGONE • ORIGINAL CREATION
L’AVEUGLEMENT DU POUVOIR FAUTEUR DE VIOLENCE ET DE DÉSORDRE DANS UNE TRILOGIE EN ÉCHO AU PRÉSENT.
The trilogy Oedipus Rex, Oedipus and Colonus and Antigone is less about Freud's famous “Oedipus complex”, and more about power and its excesses when it transforms into tyranny. When he discovers that he has committed the worst crimes and caused the suffering of his people, Oedipus, king of Thebes pierces his own eyes. This tragedy shows us not only a family curse that pushes fathers to kill their children, but also the failure of a hero who wrongly believed he could solve all problems through thought. In the midst of the violence, only Antigone and Ismene, daughters and sisters of Oedipus, resist the lure of power that drives men mad. Each in their own way show unwavering courage and humanity under the crushing weight of their fate.
