Imagine a therapeutic treatment that hinges on fiction and improvisation. This is precisely the case with “psychodrama”, a practice where people with psychiatric illnesses role-play events in their lives with the help of clinicians, in an attempt to heal trauma. Lisa Guez was intrigued by this practice when she discovered it working in a clinical setting, and used it as inspiration for this piece. Based on detailed research, this work cleverly presents several purely fictional psychodramas, staged and performed with remarkable authenticity. The result is all the more powerful for its use of humour and the metatheatrical. The blurring of real and imaginary is dizzying, as we explore the depths of the human psyche.
