What does it mean to be alone with oneself, or rather, former self? A sixty-nine-year-old man, Krapp, listens to an audio diary: his own voice on tapes he has recorded since the age of twenty. Fourteen years ago, the great actor Stephen Rea, one of the last to have worked directly with Beckett, recorded himself speaking the young Krapp’s words, in case he would later perform the play. Vicky Featherstone’s decision to make his dream come to life is pure genius, as can be seen throughout this sensitive, captivating and poetic performance.
