Inspired by an historical novel about the story of the West Han conquest, “Farewell My Concubine” evokes Xiang Yu, king of Chu County, and the tragic fate of his favorite. The famous dance with swords that she performs in front of him before committing suicide is one of the most renowned in Beijing Opera.
