Description

THE GREAT AKRAM KHAN’S XENOS BECOMES CHOTTO (LITTLE) TO INVITE YOUNG AUDIENCES TO IMAGINE PEACE, OPENNESS, AND THE WORLD TO COME.

Between the age of eight and when you’re a preteen, you experience the representation of war in action films and video games as a distillation of vital energy. How does one put that experience into perspective without getting didactic? Sue Buckmaster adapted XENOS, Akram Khan’s legendary solo about Indian foot soldiers, and hopes to repeat the global success of Chotto Desh, the all-ages version of Khan’s solo DESH. Chotto Xenos combines parts of XENOS with new scenes designed to offer young audiences a sensitive mirror and push the hero’s most private feelings to the fore. Its poetry clashes with the consumption of violence as a pastime; after all, our children deserve performances that inspire creative thinking too!
