Bach’s cello suites represent a major milestone in the western music history: the intellectual and structural power of this piece continues to fascinate us, through its rhythmic vitality and the smoothness of its melodic lines. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, who has shown more than once her particular affinity with Bach, pushes forward her search for a choreographic writing allowing her to capture the essence of the composer’s language. Jean-Guihen Queyras, internationally renowned cellist, three male and two female dancers (with De Keersmaeker herself) bring Bach’s score to life, in all its dimensions: they enlighten it, defy it or put it in perspective through choreography. This fascinating embrace between music and dance puts an equal sparkle on the individual character of the six suites and on the coherence of the overall project.
